Schedules Updates

    The schedules and guides for Research Paper Competition (RPC), Publishing the Project on JYEM(PPJ) and Photo/Image Competition(PIC) are as follows.

    Projects and experiences with integrating methods (or interdisciplinary fields) in non-science, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) studies are welcome! Suggested topics include:

    • Integrated studies throughout the curriculum
    • Pre-college initiatives and outreach programs
    • Diversity and inclusion in STEaM from high shool to college
    • Fundamental and applied educational research in integrated STEM

    Details regarding the three competitions(RPC, PPJ and PIC) are as follows:

    The JYEM Challenge - Research Paper Competition (RPC)

    • The early paper submission for RPC is open until 4/30/2021.
    • The late paper submission is RPC open until 5/7/2021.
    • RPC winners receive category awards, special awards and cash awards.

    Publish Your Project - Publishing your Project on JYEM (PPJ)

    • The paper submission for RPC is open until 5/14/2021.
    • The selected projects will be published in the next volume of JYEM.
    • Accepted PPJ winners will receive special recognition and monetary awards.

    The Photo and Image Competition) is open year round (PIC)

    • You can create a new account or use an existing/same account(you have used for the RPC or PPJ).
    • Go to the menu bar on top and select "Submission Portal" to fill out the form.
    • The PIC is for students who submit photos, images and drawings.

    2021 Schedule Summary

    A. RPC - Research Paper Competition

    • Submissions open: October 1, 2020
    • Submissions close: April 30, 2021
    • Acceptances sent: May 14, 2021
    • Final revisions due: May 28, 2021

    B. PPJ - Publish Your Project on JYEM

    • Submissions open: October 1, 2020
    • Submissions close: May 14, 2021
    • Acceptances sent: May 28, 2021
    • Final revisions due: June 11, 2021

    C. PIC - Photo/Image Competition

    • Submissions open: October 1, 2020
    • Submissions close: September 4, 2021
    • Acceptances sent: September 25, 2021

    Awards - Winners will receive eGift Cards as well as category and special award.

    • There will be separate awards for 3 types: RPC, PIC and PPJ.
    • For each type will have a structure of first place, second place and third place.
    • In each type, the eGift Cards will be $350/$200/$100 for the first place, second place and third place.
    • All the categories of awards will be judged by the senior members of the JYEM/YEGI.

    Generals and other Rules

    1. Please upload the materials online: go to the menu bar on top and select “Submission Portal” to upload the project material with the application form[download].
    2. Your project will be available for review by judges throughout the judging period.
    3. All the submissions will go through rigorous triple blind peer review.
    4. Submission deadlines are at 11:59 EST on the day posted.
    5. STEM project requires at least one image(any image representing the research or an image obtained from the research) for all submissions and omission of an image may affect the consideration for acceptance to first round review.
    6. Multiple Submissions:
      Submission of a project that describes the same work to more than one volume of JYEM is not allowed. You can submit RPC and PPJ at the same time but not with the same project.
    7. Award Announcement: Generally 2-3 weeks after the submission due date (final results will be posted on the website)
    8. When your manuscript is accepted for next round review,  judges may request more information if it is needed.
    9. Your paper for submission(s) for RPC/ PPJ will be one (or both) of the following:
      - A work in progress (preliminary or initial stage of research/investigation) paper of 3 - 5 pages
      - A full paper of 7 - 13 pages(or more)
    10. There is no specific paper format required. (Final revisions of the paper contents and format will be requested once the project is accepted)
    11. RPC/PPJ-the projects cannot exceed 20 pages.
    12. Team  projects must check Team Project box in the application form [click here] and list all the coauthors’ information in the Author section of the Abstract: Each author’s complete name, school, and email. Corresponding author should be noted.
    13. If you have problems uploading documents online, please send your research project documents(doc or docx file) or images/photos to directly with the application form[download].
